120,000 kids to compete in Super Cup

Petaling Jaya: The inaugural 100PLUS Super Cup national champion schools football tournament will involve more than 120,000 children from over 2,000 schools.

The qualifying rounds will be played in the respective states from zones to districts and then the states before culminating with the national Finals.

Selangor will host the Under-15 Finals from April 22-27 and Kedah will stage the Under-18 Finals from Aug 8-13. Johor will be the hosts for the Under-12 Finals from Nov 28-30.

The Deputy Minister of Education, Datuk Noh Omar, launched the programme - which is jointly managed by sponsors 100PLUS and the Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) - at the Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya yesterday.

Noh said that all parties concerned should complement each other to promote football.

"It is not the role of the national football association alone to promote the sport. Everyone has to play his part for the betterment of our football," said Noh.

The FAM general secretary, Datuk Seri Dr. Ibrahim Saad, welcomed the support at the grassroots level.

"It is from here (grassroots) that national champions are made," he said. "We are happy to note that importance has been given to his area and we hope that with this kind of support we will be able to meet our objectives to see our national team progress and improve on their world rankings."
