Anderson claim Melaka state Under-15 title

KUALA LUMPUR, 19 April 2006 - Favourites SMK Anderson lived up to everyone's expectations when they defeated SMK Grik 3-0 in the Perak state Under-15 100PLUS Super Cup football final at the Kampung Gajah Stadium yesterday.

SMK Anderson will join 14 other state champions in the Grand Finals of the 100PLUS Super Cup in Klang from April 24 to 27 where the national schools champion will be determined.

In yesterday's match, the Anderson players were clearly all fired up for the final and not surprisingly snatched the lead through R. Sashikumar in the 12th minute. Despite being pressured, SMK Grik did well to stop their rivals from causing any more damage in the first half.

In the second-half, Anderson intensified the pressure and were rewarded with a second goal from Mohamed Hafizuldin in the 28th minute. Nor Izrul Zakaria sealed it for his team with a third strike in 54th minute.

The third-fourth placing playoff was a closely contested affair with SMK Selinsing defeated MCKK 5-3 in the penalty shootout. The score at the end of regulation was 0-0.

In the Melaka state Under-15 final held the previous day, SMK Dato Dol Syed toppled reigning champions Melaka High School 1-0 in a pulsating final which went to extra-time.

With the game scoreless after 40 minutes (20 minutes each half), Mohd Nikmat Abdul Rahman converted a penalty in the 44th minute to give a memorable victory to SMK Dato Dol Syed.

The victory was the second in three years for SMK Dol Syed who lost to Melaka High School last year. "It was a balanced fight in the final," said SMK Dato Dol Syed head coach Adam Ahmad. "We lost to them last year, so winning it this year has given us a lot of satisfaction."

For Melaka High School, it would seem that home advantage counted for very little. Coach Rahmat Abdul Rashid was not overly disappointed with the result. "It was a very tough game and the players were spirited playing on our home ground," said Rahmat.

"It has been close between the two schools over the last few years and definitely, we will come back better and stronger next year."

In the meantime in the fight for third and fourth placing was dominated by SMK Bukit Rambai who defeated SMK Sultan Alauddin 6-1.
