100PLUS SUPER CUP - Under-18 Penang State Final

Surprise Win for Penang Free School

PENANG (Aug 3, 2006): Penang Free School emerged victorious in the Penang state final of the 100PLUS Super Cup Under-18 Championship when they beat SMK Gua Perahu 1-0 in the final played at the Complex MPSP in Bertam yesterday.

Mohd Izzudin Mohd Hamid's goal in the 20th minutes separated the two sides in an evenly contested affair. For winning, Penang Free School will represent the state in the national Under-18 final at the end of the month.

"The players played to instruction where our emphasis was more on defending rather than being over zealous in attack," said Penang Free School coach Azhar Abdul Rahman.

"And even though we were up against the favourites, the players kept their cool and it paid off handsomely in the end."

SMK Gua Perahu came into the final as the firm favourites after thrashing SM Teknik Lanchang 6-0 in the semifinals.

But they soon realised, it promised them little by way of a victory when they hit the post several times and just could not creach the resolute defending of their opponents.

Thanks to a sensational victory, Penang Free School will compete in the 100PLUS Super Cup Under-18 national finals in Kedah from Aug 23-27.

The 100PLUS Super Cup is organised with the cooperation of the Majlis Sukan Sekolah Malaysia and is supported by the FA of Malaysia (FAM)
