SMK Anderson, SMK Damansara Qualify for the National Finals

PETALING JAYA (August 7, 2006) – Perak's SMK Anderson and Selangor's SMK Sekysen 10 Kota Damansara booked their places in the national final of the 100PLUS Super Cup Under-18 championship in contrasting fashions over the weekend.

While SMK Anderson cruised past SMK Seri Setia 4-0 to earn the right to represent Perak in the national finals in two weeks time, SMK Seksyen 10 Kota Damansara were forced to go the distance and fight it out in the penalty shootout.

SMK Seksyen eventually edged rivals SMK Kuala Kubu Baru to get away with a slim 2-1 victory in the final which was staged at the SMK Agama Hamidah in Kajang yesterday.

"It was nerve wracking but the team held together until the end," said SMK Seksyen 10 Kota Damansara head coach Hishamuddin Hasan after the match.

"The win showed that we are on the right path as far as our preparations are concerned but we will still have to improve on some aspects of our game before the national finals."

SMK Anderson, meanwhile, did not have to suffer any anxious moments in their state 100PLUS Super Cup campaign. A convincing 2-0 win over SMK Clifford in the semifinals set the stage for the final against SMK Seri Setia.

In the final, which was played at the Stadium Perbandaran Teluk Intan, Hakim Rosli and Mohammad Shafiq Ramli netted a brace each to secure their team's place in the national inter-schools finals.

The national finals will be held in Sungai Petani, Kedah from Aug 23-25.
